GNS3 loads up fine,
I begin by loading up the OSI image making sure its the same as thr Router I'm about to use.
But when I go to load a router on to the main window is tells me
" Unable to start Dynamips "

When I check my preferences> under Dynamips theres a TEST button when I click on it it says " Failed to start Dynamips "..

What I'm I doing Wrong.. I've been at this for days..

Hi

The reason is that you need to start the .bin file located within the app

my example is (if you have GNS3.app in the applications folder)

/Applications/GNS3.app/Contents/Resources/dynamips-0.2.8-RC2.bin

you can do a search by going to the app and right click and select "shows package contents" then contents/resources/ you will see dynamips then that will be your path that you need to enter

hope this helps

I had the same issue. I downloaded the bin file "dynamips-0-2.2.8-RC2-OSX-Leopard.intel.bin" and the copied the file to GNS3 App with following command
cp dynamips-0-2.2.8-RC2-OSX-Leopard.intel.bin /Applications/GNS3.app/Contents/Resources

then I set the execute permission on the file.

cd /Applications/GNS3.app/Contents/Resources
chmod 0755 dynamips-0-2.2.8-RC2-OSX-Leopard.intel.bin

then went back into GNS3 GUI....and hit the test button and finally got a success...

OK I got it, it took me about a week but I'm running it @ Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.5

Steps:
1. Download the latest version of GNS3
2. Download the dynamips.bin file and copy it into the gns3.app/content/resources/, give it the 0755 permission.
3. Go to General tab on General Option on the preferences window, and set ALL the folders on a valid folders!!! (THIS IS CRITICAL) give each one a own folder.
a. Project Directory = on your Documents folder (I create a new folder called GNS3_projects)
b. Image Directory = where you have the IOS images
4. On the Dynamips option:
a. Executable Path = /Applications/GNS3.app/Contents/Resources/dynamips-0.2.8-RC2-OSX-Leopard.intel.bin
b. Working Directory = any on my documents (an empty one)
c. Base port: 7200
d. Base UDP: 10000
e. Base Console: 2000
f. the first 3 check buttons checked.
g. On the hypervisor Manager tab:
i. Memory = 1024
ii. UDP = 100
iii. 127.0.0.1 with the Use hypervisor manager when importing checked.
5. We click Ok and close the preferences window.
6. Go to the Images and External Hypervisor
7. Go to External hypervisor tab
a. Host = 127.0.0.1
b. Port = 7200
c. Base UDP = 12000 (the hypervisor and the instance must be in a different port)
d. Base Console = 2000
e. Working directory = a new folder XD
f. Add the hypervisor
8. Go to IOS Images tab
9. Add the images to the system, but remember to check the option Use the hypervisor Manager
10. Save the images.
11. Have fun!!! It really worked for me. Try it XD

martynlam,

I have a blog post that details the procedure of the installation and configuration of GNS3 in Mac OS X. The tutorial should answer most of your questions, but please reply if you need clarification on any of the specific steps.
