I am having trouble loading an image file into GNS3. When I try a new topology and click and drag a router to the drawing area it give me a message (no error number) saying that the path to the image file 'seems not to exist'. The router indicates that it has an image and I can start it but cannot access it via puttcm. GNS3 is running well it just can't find the image file. I have GNS3 running on my laptop without any problems; over 30 projects completed. I copied the file structure to my desktop exactly. The path is correct and the image files are there. When I try to load a project file (.net) I get a error 203 bad number of params. Have uninstalled gns3 and reinstalled with new directory structure that has no spaces. Same problem. I believe the GNS3 uninstall may not clear the registry but that is only a guess. Have been very careful in getting all paths correct in IOS and Hypervisors and in Preference/General and /Dynamips.

Anyone have any ideas; I have tried everything on this Forum and many other forums to no avail.

Will appreciate any help.

what kind of GNS, what platform Windows, linux?
It depends from it.
Seems taht you have probs with topolgy importing.
If you have new GNS 0.3.8 Virtualbox edition windows installation , see here -
topic3262-280.html

I was the same trouble. But you can solve it manually using topolgy. net file editing. Use wordpad for edit path in your topology.net files.

Just solved the problem, with help from Rene at GNS3 Vault.

Uninstalled GNS3 and then created a new directory structure. Basically, moving GNS3 to the C:\ and creating a structure under that for all the support needs.

C:\GNS3\
IOS\
PROJECTS\
TMP
CAPTURES\

I kept the structure 'space' free, although I'm not sure that is really necessary because on my laptop it is running fine using the C:\Program Files (x86)\GNS3 structure.

The big thing was that I did not try to load a project file that I had downloaded until after creating a new one from scratch. Clicked and drug two routers to the drawing area. The first try did not work; it could not find the IOS image directory. Shutdown and did it again and it worked partly. Then we had a major lightening strike that knocked out power for a few minutes. When it came back up everything worked fine. Who knows????? Just happy to have it up and running. I had saved project just before the strike. Lucky there! After loading the project again I was able to configure a few things and save it again and then load once again. Everything worked fine. I then opened a downloaded lab, made .NET corrections and it ran immediately. Seems to be something in GNS3 that likes to have a newly created topology saved first before trying a download on initial configuration. Don't really know.

HTH someone else!!
