Have Mac Pro running Lion (10.7.3).

Upgraded to the latest VirtualBox and and GNS3 but cannot get VirtualBox to work with GNS3. Executed the following command:

mv /Applications/GNS3.app/Contents/Resources/VBoxPython2_7.so /Applications/VirtualBox.app/Contents/MacOS/

Still get the error: Failed to load vboxapi, please check your VirtualBOx installation.

Anyone experiencing this problem? Any help is greatly appreciated

I'm in the same boat--even tried to set python2.7 as my default before taking the step you did: http://www.multigesture.net/articles/ho ... -macports/

Same results, though.

I am also experiencing the same problem. I have a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.7 (Lion). The odd thing, though, is that GNS3 0.8.2 Beta works fine.

I've tried uninstalling GNS3 and VirtualBox, then installing GNS3 0.8.2, then installing VirtualBox 4.1.15, then moving the ".so" file, then testing VirutalBox and getting "Failed to load vboxapi...".

What is missing?

Kind regards,
John Natschev.

Apparently there is an issue with the compiled version (.App) on OSX. We will fix that and release a minor version of GNS3 soon.

Thank you Jeremy.

It will be great to get it fixed for Lion. I thought it must have been a problem with the release of 0.8.2 as I couldn't get the BETA2 to break.

Kind regards,
John Natschev.

Hi,

There has been a major change on Vbox support in GNS3 between the BETA2 and 0.8.2.

This is gonna be fixed soon. I already found how ;)

While waiting you can try this alternative.

  • Start a command line.
  • python /Applications/GNS3.app/Contents/Resources/vboxwrapper.py
  • Go in GNS3 preferences, Virtualbox Pane. Tick "Show VboxWrapper Advanced Option".
  • Untick "Enable Vbox Manager" and "Use VBox Manager when importing"

This should work. Let me know.

Thank you again Jeremy.

Well it worked to a point. When adding hosts GNS3 wasn't able to see the virtual guests in Virtualbox. Well, that's not entirely true. It was able to see one of the three virtual guests, so I'm not sure what that's about.

Also, the terminal session running vboxwrapper kept displaying:
Exception happened during processing of request from ('127.0.0.1', 49506)
Traceback (most recent call last):

So the most part it's working. Looking forward to the repaired OS X version.

Cheers Jeremy,
John Natschev.

Hello Jeremy and a big thank you and to all that participated in the latest release, 0.8.3, of GNS3. The issue written about with GNS3 0.8.2 on Mac OS X Lion and the VirtualBox integration is now resolved. Haven't played around with 0.8.3 on Lion much; only downloaded and installed a few minutes ago. Tested a saved topology that contained a VirtualBox guest and it worked - much to my satisfaction.

Thanks again...
