Hello,

I am working on a somewhat different config in OS X, trying to create multiple virtual switches and connect them to each other via dot1q trunks. There is no real need to run the lab this way, but I wanted to find out if it could be done. When I run the simulation, I receive the following error:
*** Warning: Connecting SW1 port 8 to dot1q 1 SW2 8 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW1 port 9 to dot1q 1 SW3 8 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW1 port 10 to dot1q 1 SW4 8 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW2 port 8 to dot1q 1 SW1 8 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW2 port 9 to dot1q 1 SW3 9 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW2 port 10 to dot1q 1 SW4 9 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW3 port 8 to dot1q 1 SW1 9 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW3 port 9 to dot1q 1 SW2 9 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW3 port 10 to dot1q 1 SW4 10 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW4 port 8 to dot1q 1 SW1 10 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW4 port 9 to dot1q 1 SW2 10 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config
*** Warning: Connecting SW4 port 10 to dot1q 1 SW3 10 resulted in:
invalid Ethernet switchport config

Here is the relevant section of the .net file:
[[ETHSW SW1]]
8 = dot1q 1 SW2 8
9 = dot1q 1 SW3 8
10 = dot1q 1 SW4 8
[[ETHSW SW2]]
8 = dot1q 1 SW1 8
9 = dot1q 1 SW3 9
10 = dot1q 1 SW4 9
[[ETHSW SW3]]
8 = dot1q 1 SW1 9
9 = dot1q 1 SW2 9
10 = dot1q 1 SW4 10
[[ETHSW SW4]]
8 = dot1q 1 SW1 10
9 = dot1q 1 SW2 10
10 = dot1q 1 SW3 10

I've searched for a solution to this, but haven't found anything yet. I'm running this on OS X Mountain Lion. Other .net files load without any issues. It's only when I try to connect multiple virtual switches together that I run into problems. I've tried changing the port types to access, tried different interfaces, tried defining the nio as gen_eth, all with no luck.

I know I could accomplish the same thing with additional routers running switch modules, but wanted to find out if this configuration works, as it is a little faster to set up. Yes, I'm a little lazy here, admittedly. ;-)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello,

What version of GNS3 did you use?
