Hey All I'm new here. I'm also new to Ubuntu, but I've been running it for awhile, but I'm still new to Linux.

I watched the Dynamips install video and followed it step by step....Here's what my issues are.

I setup Dynamips with my IOS and TEMP folder on a remote Ubuntu 13.04 machine, and GNS3 on my Main Ubuntu 13.04 workstation. I can launch dynamips via terminal (sudo gns3) and gns3 and everything seems to work. I can start up 20 routers in GNS3 and my dynamips processor is less than 25%, which is awesome! The performance is amazing!

My issue is, when I save my projects and reopen them, all of my changes are lost. The only thing that is saved are the router's hostname. I never had this issue when i ran gns3 in Windows. I also have extra NIC cards in the system for connecting to my real gear.

Do I need to be logged in as Root on both Dynamips and GNS3 systems to run this properly? Sorry for all the Noob questions.
This is a home lab so i don't mind running everything as Root. I have already setup Root at the login screen.
By the way, my Dynamips server is a VM running in VMWARE.
I have a 64bit ver of Ubuntu 13.04 on both the dynamips server and my workstation, should i go back to 32bit?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Cam3ron

The strange thing I just noticed my actual config files in the project folder, are showing my work. But, launching GNS3 pulls a blank config. I must have some setting turned on and pointing to the default configs or something..

Thank you for asking. I am running the latest code on my "Desktop" GNS3, 0.8.4 community binary for linux 64bit.
and on the "Server" its "Dynamips 0.2.8-RC3-community binary for Linux (64-bit)"

i still have one issue.

I can't connect my gns3 routers to my real switches. I get the common error "206-unable to create generic ethernet NIO" message.

Been all over the net looking for some info on this, and the only thing i can find is that GNS3 needs to be running in ROOT mode. I'm logged on as Root and i am
launching gns3 via the sudo command "sudo gns3" which i though would start the it as root.

i don't know what to do next.

ok i think i figured this puzzle out.

i have the quad nics in my GNS3 workstation, not the dynamips server. Do the nic cards have to be in the dynamips server?
