Greetings! And I've been almost a regular user and a true fan of GNS3 like others out there.

Now straight to the point, during the training that I conduct, I recommend and also dedicate sessions for GNS3 and I end up showing them to configure both on Windows and Linux and take care of little stuff. Couple of years back, I've seen Linux based routers that fire up from live CDs, so why not create something like that.

Why not create a single Live Linux bootable CD tightly integrated with GNS3 and that could be the only format to develop and integrate everything in one place instead of developing separate GNS3 installer and executable for Windows, Linux and Mac! That way, everyone would be using one universal GNS3 and it will help everyone to learn and go with one common approach, no worries to support different OS and driver issues, that way developments will be fast as everything has to be focused on a single platform and all the system resources can be very effectively utilized.

Am sure you guys must be aware, Ubuntu based distros give you flexibility to have boot persistent USB / flash drives and thats how I carry all the tools like GNS3, xterm, Wireshark, Virtualbox etc on it and all the labs are still saved on it.

Why not roll your own bootable disc? It doesn't take that much effort.

Or, grab GNS3 Workbench and convert the vmdk into a bootable disc...

Or if you're super lazy, some guy out there already made a Live CD of GNS3 Workbench.

I'd say let the GNS3 team concentrate on developing the core product and the rest of the community will add their own flair.

Of course, am aware of GNS3 Workbench and its a great way to share all pre-configured environment, but again, to run everything inside a virtual machine would demand lot of system resources when compared to using a bootable disc!

Probably I ll make use of your idea of remastersys and surely come up with something that i can distribute on a disc or flash drives and it ll be great that way!

You could take a look at live-raizo (http://sourceforge.net/projects/live-raizo/), whilst I haven't personally used it, it is well supported and the creator is even a member on the forums here.

I second this request - many of us have specialties in one field but not another - VM's and making my own distros would take valuable hrs away from CCIE study

at some point - around GNS 1.0 - I'd like to see a bootable linux distro but I'm aware teh ever changing Alphas make that bit of a waste of time right now

Yes it is too early. GNS3 v1 is only in development state
