Hi Guys,

I already asked here:

https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/message/397570#397570

but let me ask in the gns3 forum again:

I red the FAQ

http://www.gns3.net/early-release-faq/

and this whole thread but I am still not really clear about swithing. The FAQ states:

"The one that are likely not to work are L3 Etherchannel, ISL trunks, DHCP snooping, Private VLAN, SPAN/RSPAN/ERSPAN, Port-security, Voice VLANs, MLS QoS and QinQ."

I just started studying for ccnp switch and some of the topics include:

1. Lab Equipment
2. VLANs (Virtual LANs)
3. Private VLANs
4. STP (Spanning Tree Protocol)
5. Rapid Spanning Tree
6. MST (Multiple Spanning Tree)
7. Spanning Tree Toolkit
8. Etherchannel (Link Aggregation)
9. InterVLAN routing
10. Gateway Redundancy (VRRP, GLBP, HSRP)
11. Switch Security
12. VoIP and Video on a switched network
13. Wireless

If I get the new release will I be able to study or not? I have 3 x 3550 switches at home and I can do labs there but still.. I wouldn't mind to sell them
I am familiar with gns 0.8.5 since it helped me a lot when practicing for my ccna exam and I don't mind to contribute and try 1.0.

Very eager to see your replies!! Thanks a lot!!
Daniel

I am also studying for my CCNP switch exam. So far working with GNS3 alpha 5 in windows I have found it buggy. A (VLAN, VTP, DTP and STP lab) I have had to change to a different IOS to get the necessary functions to work, i.e., trunking (switchport mode dynamic desirable and switchport mode dynamic auto). Going through the first pass of the lab I had some buggy issues with spanning-tree (backbonefast and spanning-tree uplinkfast).

Also using the images
/home/gns3/Documents/GNS3/images/i86bi_linuxl2-upk9-ms-15.0.bin
/home/gns3/Documents/GNS3/images/i86bi_linuxl2-upk9-ms-12.2.bin

I am kind of stuck on the latest lab using (LACP, PAgP and Multiple STP) ether channels, not sure if I have the proper image.

Kind regards,
Gary

Hi Gary,

I've tested alpha 5 and found it buggy too. Lots of features still not included and l2 images hang very often. I find IOU-WEB fantastic:

I would strongly suggest to anyone, who is studying for exams and want to rely on GNS3 1.0 in it's current state... DON'T!

At this point in the development cycle it is to be expected that the software will still have a large number of bugs and also be subject to changes that may result in the need to start an entire topology again.

So until GNS 1.0 gets to stable releases... use an alternative method.

I have completed my CCNP - Route and I am moving on the the CCNP - Switch. I have the hardware in my home lab to perform all of the labs for the exam but I am interested in doing a comparison between the physical hardware, GNS3 1.0 and IOU-WEB. For training I am using the INE-CCNP Switch, CBT Nuggets Switch and www.certprepare.com labs. If anyone is interested I will document all the labs conducted and run them on each platform and record the results.

Physical lab:
7x 2811
1x 2821
3x 2621XM
1x ASA 5505
1x ASA 5540
3x 3750G
3x 3560
2x 2960
1x MCS7800
3x Virtualized CUCM
2x Virtualized CUP
2x Virtualized CUM
2x Virtulized ACS 5.2

How about GNS3 1.0 beta 2? What IOU's to use for CCNP Switch? I'm finding i86bi-linux-l3-adventerprisek9-15.4.1T peculiar...
