There are two options to simulate switches.

1) Use generic ethernet switch provided by GNS3 features:
- VLANs
- dot1q trunk

2) Use 16 port switch module in 3600 or 3700 series router
- more features than in generic switch
- not features like PVLAN or MSTP (not in real life either)
- here is list of missing features compared to catalyst switch http://www.gns3.net/phpBB/topic229.html

hi,
you can use your router as switch by using NM-16ESW module in router.
i found a easy way to do this...
check this..

I configured a high availability (HSRP, VRRP, GLBP) lab using an int VLAN, not an int fa.
I used two GNS3 Ethernet switches, two 3725 EtherSwitch routers, and vpcs for two PCs.
It is assumed you know how to configure a trunk, config HSRP and vpcs, so the following are some steps you may have overlooked:

1. Only use the 3700. Do not use the 3600 (vlan issues).
2. When trunking the GNS3 Ethernet switch(s) to the EtherSwitch router(s) (3725):

2.1 Configure the GNS3 Ethernet switch as follows:
2.1.1 Configure a port on the GNS3 Ethernet switch as a trunk port by setting it to dot1q, and keep it VLAN 1.
2.1.2 Configure a port on the GNS3 Ethernet switch as an access port, and configure it to your desired VLAN (eg, VLAN 70).

2.2 Manually connect the trunk ports.
2.3 Configure the EtherSwitch router (3725) trunk to dot1q. Note: you must configure it.
2.4 Do a NO SHUTDOWN, then SHUTDOWN, and again, NO SHUTDOWN on the port.
2.5 You'll know it is working when you get the dot1q message.

Regards,
JoH
