hi,

can you guys please advise on how I can find this gdm.conf? I have installed gdm on my Ubuntu server but I don't see such configuration under the X11 nor the GDM folder!?

Also I have i problems with creating the New-GNS3_user.sh as I don't know how some of the stuf in that script to be pasted in a file in users directories can relate when I have already created User account on Linux server!/

can you please elaborate a little more on this?

Thanks,

Masood

Hi Kaage

Thanks for the brilliant write up. I followed your guide and all seems to be working fine other than some small issues I picked up. I'm
hoping you can put more insight into this.

Basically, you mentioned that each user must have a unique Hypervisor, UDP and Console port assigned.

Issue : If I assign Console 3000 to a student. I set the console field under each hypervisor (3 in total) to 3000.
When GNS3 is opened and a router is dropped onto working area and then another router, I can see console
3000 and 3001 assigned accordingly. Everything works fine.

Although, If GNS3 is opened and the .net file previously created is opened which has 2 routers and I drag a drop a 3rd
router, Console 2002 is assigned to the 3rd router.

So, any additions made to existing .net files which are opened do not get assigned the next console port eg.3003.

I've noticed, that the console field for each hypervisor reflects 2000.
So, when GNS3 is initially opened, the console field shows 3000. When a .net file is opened, it changes to 2000.
Despite me manually specifying 3000 in the gns3.ini file and making the file RO. The GNS3 application still defaults to 2000.

Have you experienced this problem or am I doing something wrong. Im using version 0.7.2 on Ubuntu 10.10
Do let me know if any more info is required and thanks in advance for you assistance.

Hi jarrodd,

I think you are doing something wrong way because of I don't have problems you explained.

How have you assigned console ports to hypervisors? Are you using my scripts to make user specific gns3.ini files? It seems that you haven't modified ini-files.....

Hi Kaage

Yes, I create user specific gns3.ini files using the your script. The ini script has converted to Perl and modified to accomodate load balancing to remote hypervisors and auto increment ports. It works like a charm, cause I edit the gns3.ini file and confirm the config is in place.

Keep in mind, it all works fine when starting a new project.
Problem comes in when opening an existing project and adding new devices. Custom ports not assigned to new devices but default ports.

I went further to exclude my setup has the problem by setting up GNS3 on my Win7 Laptop and using an Ubuntu server has a remote hypervisor. (No scripting used). Specified custom ports under hypervisor section and exact same issue.

I'm sure, if you have the time. Setup remote-hypervisor and you should be able to replicate my issue. Note, local hypervisors is not really an issue. It's more evident on remote-hypervisor setup.

I see a new version of GNS3 is out, I will be testing today to confirm whether I get the same issue or not. I am no programmer but it almost
seems as if the GNS3 application is resetting to default value for console whenever opening existing projects. It literally changes console to 2000 under each remote/external hypervisor within GNS3 application but does not change the gns3.ini file because I set it to read only.

Regards
Jarrod

Hi and sorry late answer. I haven't used this with remote hypervisors at all. If you find something like bug you can post it to the Bug reports -section under Development section.

I am trying to setup multiuser GNS3 using xrdp instead of using VNC on Ubuntu 12.04LTS. I am not able to get new_GNS3_user.sh or new_GNS3_ini.sh to work. Stops on read UserName and ends. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
Lewis
