Hi there,

Could you please help me out on the following?

I'm new to Mac OS X and I installed Dynamips and GNS3 without any problems.
I can start a router without any problems, however, when I want to access console, nothing happens (no error message, nothing).

The terminal command in my preferences is:

/usr/bin/osascript -e 'tell application "Terminal" to do script with command "telnet %h %p ; exit"' -e
'tell application "Terminal" to tell window 1 to set custom title to "%d"'

Is this the correct string?

Any help much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Found below string on: http://wiki.gns3.net/index.php/Documentation#Mac_OS_X

/usr/bin/osascript -e 'tell application "Terminal" to do script with command "telnet %h %p ; exit"' -e 'tell application "Terminal" to tell window 1 to set custom title to "%d"'

Seems to me this is the same string as I had configured previously, but now it is working...

/usr/bin/osascript -e 'tell application "Terminal" to do script with command "echo -n -e \"\\033]0;%d\\007\"; telnet %h %p"'

I figured the above out after messing with it a bit and it works perfectly.

Cheers!

I have tried multiple scripts and also manually opened up a terminal and telnet to 127.0.0.1 2000 and always get the same result:

glenkaufman$ telnet 127.0.0.1 2000
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connected to Dynamips VM "R1" (ID 0, type c3745) - Console port

Except the console is not responding to any keyboard input. Any suggestions as to what I should look at?

First tip for any Mac user: do yourself a favour and download iTerm2. It is a far better application than Terminal, allows mutiple tabs, split screens, send input to all panes/tabs and much much more.

I have set it up so that I get a different tab for each router

My settings are:

/usr/bin/osascript -e 'tell app "iTerm"' -e 'activate' -e 'set myterm to the first terminal' -e 'tell myterm' -e 'set mysession to (make new session at the end of sessions)' -e 'tell mysession' -e 'exec command "telnet %h %p"' -e 'set name to "%d"' -e 'end tell' -e 'end tell' -e 'end tell'

One "Gotcha"

I must also warn that it seems that I have to have iTerm (the iTerm2 app is still called iTerm) opened BEFORE I try and open any console sessions. Simply expecting the above script to actually fire up iTerm is apparently not working - however I must say that I've got into the habit of making sure there is an iTerm window open somewhere (there nearly always is on my Mac anyway) has become such a habit I've never even thought of trying to debug it or report it as a bug.

I tried your suggestions, but it is not working. I got exactly the same result. Firewall is not active or anything.
Maybe it is seeing another character then ENTER or not getting any input.

I presume when you get the
"Connected to Dynamips VM "R1" (ID 0, type c2600) - Console port
Press ENTER to get the prompt."
it is not a connection issue.

This must be frustrating.

As a matter of interest, what happens if you start the routers, then issue a command
Code:
telnet 127.0.0.1 2000
assuming the first router is on port 2000

I can see that you have tried different images. Have you uncompressed them first (esp the 2600)?

Struggling to find answers for you - sorry.

I only have a 2600 bin.
When using the uncompressed image, I actually get another error :(
209-unable to start VM instance 'ghost-c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.123-14.T5.image-127.0.0.1.ghost'

Apparently the image I was using (c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.123-14.T5.bin) did not run correctly or maybe the file is corrupt (may explain the error when using the uncompressed image).
Credits go to Johan Havermans for helping me out remotely and with a working image.
He also pointed out the image may not be running on MIPS emulator as newer hardware have Intel cores.
