Even all the early bird member are no more there. Does that mean we are no more relevant? What a better way to reward or slight the group that make gns3 what they are today.

I don't know what the official stand point on this is, but the way I see it... If the developer didn't do anything in GNS v1 why list them? The new version is a ground-up rewrite.

There are no translations yet in GNS3 v1 so there's nobody to mention...

They are still present in my copy GNS v1 (1.0beta1)

Why mention?
Because we invested months (or years) of our own time ! (this could be worth tens of thousands of dollars, way higher than average $30 people pay in crown-funding)

I hope I can clarify somethings here in regards to the development.

The new software is a complete - from scratch - rebuild of the software with the main developer being Jeremy Grossmann. In fact, somewhere around 95% of the code has been done solely by him - with some others contributing on specialized portions. This is an absolutely incredible feat (I am often amazed that he is able to create code so fast all by himself). If you haven't yet - give him a shout out on the forums for all the hard work he has done so far.

Those who contributed code to the new build of GNS3 have the option to have their names included in the software which they built.

We do acknowledged all the work that previous contributors have given for the older generation of the software and display their names very proudly on our team section of our website - http://www.gns3.net/team/ - We are very proud of what our community can do when we band together for a common cause - and the community has shown its strength to work on projects together.

For translations - the current software does not include any at the moment - we are hoping to include previous translations into the new software and will give credit to those we can include. If not - we will give the opportunity to those who first contributed - to update their contribution if they so choose.

In regards to us including the names of those who contributed in the software, all the names of those who contributed initially are there (we are doing a final update of names once we have a final version of the software) - and this is confirmed by many others. The last thing we want to do is slight those who helped get the software to where it is today. I'm not sure if the location of it changed - but could you please double check. We could double check together too in a screen share. I want to make sure that this is cleared up.

This is a community project and we like to acknowledge those who have contributed and what they have contributed. We display the names of everyone involved as proudly and as boldly as we can and make sure everyone has the opportunity to showcase how they have contributed (whether it be through code or through monetary means).

We understand that some people put immense amount of value on their contributions - some even have gotten jobs because of it - and we want to make sure we are as honest and transparent with who has contributed and what they have contributed to the project.

I do appreciate you bringing this to our attention Alexey, I hope I have clarified some of your concerns.

That's completely untrue.
He still uses dynagen/dynamips/vboxwrapper/... written by other people.
There is no 95% code written by Jeremy.

I understand your frustrations Alexey.

If you could help me better understand how we should give credit to contributors:

How should we be crediting those who have contributed to the old project?

How should we credit those who are currently contributing to the new the new software?

How should we give credit to open source projects (Dynamips https://github.com/GNS3/dynamips + VBoxWrapper https://github.com/GNS3/vboxwrapper) that we are incorporating into GNS3?

If you could answer these questions for me - I will take your suggestions and make sure we address them properly.

I recommend adding new tab to Help->About

Help->About->Developers (tab)
should list developers (including of critical components, that were done for GNS3 specifically: Dynamips/Dynagen/confDynagen/pemuwrapper/qemuwrapper/vboxwrapper ... + VPCS, as it was done for GNS3 specifically).

Not required to list generic Open-source component developers: pyQt/Qt/VirtualBox/python/putty/wireshark... as those projects were not developed for GNS3 specifically. Although those projects could be mentioned by project name...

This should also mention translations.

Ill make sure we address all these issues for the final release of the software.

Another question - for projects (like Dynamips) that are in GitHub Repository - how should we go about keeping an updated list of contributors. As with GNS3 being a software, it is difficult to keep an up to date tracking of all contributors. Would a satisfactory work around include a link to the project in GitHub so that people inquiring can see who has contributed to the project.

Original developers of GNS3-specific software (Dynagen) should be written in our help->about... as for new contributors... we can add once in a while to our list. (there aren't many)
