Hi,

I just joined this forum,

I tried the method posted here (and elsewhere as well) to configure ASA on windows 7

when i try to console in the putty terminal just hangs, it blank actually.

The putty terminal responds, when i press enter the curser justs goes down a line, its just behaves like a dumb text editor.

i have also tried installing a new unpacked version of asa802-k8.bin, yet still i can not console access to the ASA.

Although, I am able to access routers 3600, 7200.

i have tried other ports other than the default 10525, but no luck.

I have also re-installed GNS3

Please let me know how to resolve this issue.

Regards
MHF

All guys trying ASA.
1)Download gns3 ver 7.2
2)Download Tobie’s custom initrd and kernel file from this blog. http://blog.gns3.net/2009/12/how-to-emu ... omment-878
3)Install gns3
4)Dont change any path in gns3
5)Test qemu and dynamics, This test button works fine.
6)In gns3 Edit, preferences, qemu, asa select path for initrd and kernel which you downloaded already dnt change other settings.
7)Drag your ASA into gns3 and click start.
8)qemu will open dnt close it just minize it
9)Open console ASA will open in putty.
10) Follow this steps.
Cisco ASA with Multiple Security Contexts
==============================================

This is your first boot, please wait about 2 minutes for ‘disk0′ creation
and then execute the following commands inside the Linux prompt:

# cd /mnt/disk0
# /mnt/disk0/lina_monitor

Please note to use the following command under ASA to save your configs:

ciscoasa(config)# boot config disk0:/.private/startup-config
ciscoasa(config)# copy running-config disk0:/.private/startup-config

To get webvpn working, execute the following commands:

ciscoasa# mkdir disk0:/var
ciscoasa# mkdir disk0:/var/log
ciscoasa# mkdir disk0:/csco_config
ciscoasa# mkdir disk0:/csco_config/97
ciscoasa# mkdir disk0:/csco_config/97/webcontent

Please press Enter to activate this console.

Thats all, Everything works fine ,even SSL vpn. Still ASDM not working without fiddler i am waiting for tobie’s from http://blog.gns3.net/2009/12/how-to-emu ... omment-878 reply cos only from him i heard without fiddler i can work with ASDM

Dear Kumar,

Thanks for the reply mate.

Its working, i actually had to swtich to VMWARE/UBUNTU to get it working.

your post has helped, so far i m able to save config, i m yet to test web vpn and secutiy context.

But, 1 thing is that when i run the reload command, it restarts and the qemu seems to go in a loop hence hanging the asa.

Let me know.

Thanks
Regards
MHF

Hi all,

just one question for the ones who succeed to run an ASA on GNS3 with QEMU.

What version of ASA IOS did you try ?

Actually I succeeded to launch an 8.0.2 version but it is the last one I can run.

thank in advance
