I am running the latest ver of Ubuntu 64-bit (10.04), I have GNS3 installed and configured using the 64-bit dynamips .bin file.

When I load up a router, I am able to open a Konsole window, which functions properly, but when I load an ASA and then try to Konsole to it, the window either doesn't open (when I have a router running), or if there is nothing else running, the window flashes as if its opening, and closes just as fast.

The command I have typed into GNS3 for Konsole access is:

/usr/bin/konsole --profile "gb" --new-tab -p tabtitle=%d -e telnet %h %p >/dev/null 2>&1 &

I've also tried

/usr/bin/konsole --new-tab -p tabtitle=%d -e telnet %h %p >/dev/null 2>&1 &

I'm really stumped why it works for one, and not both.

Anyone experience this before?

hah well I got it to work. I was running GNS3 elevated (command: 'gksudo python "/opt/GNS3/gns3"') and it wouldn't run the ASA... it would run routers though (IOS), and just running it normally allows the ASA to run (command: /opt/GNS3/gns3)

now, the million dollar question is.... WHY wouldn't it work? lol

anybody know why? this is one of those things that will drive me nuts until I find out heh
I remember running GNS3 elevated like that solved some other problem i was having... damned if I could remember what that was... oh well, it'll come to me eventually.

so yeah, if anyone could enlighten me that'd be great!!

Cheers

I have the exact same problem with XTerm or Kconsole, except the opposite in one way. Everything but ASA images open properly, but I'm running in unprivileged mode.
