Post subject: JUNOS and GNS 0.7.2 release
PostPosted: Fri Jun 18, 2010 9:50 am
Hi,
I have installed GNS 0.7.2 on Windows 7 64bit. I am trying to use JUNOS routers. I have one JUNOS router. I can start the router and i can see the QEMU window POP up and after a while i get the router login prompt. When i right click on JUNOS router and select console i get putty window but no text. I cannot see router output, i see just the blank putty screen.
I have this working under Kubuntu linux but not under windows 7. I am using the same olive image in both cases.

Can anyone help please....

Thanks

Hi,
I went to link you provided, i know there is an issue with starting multiple JUNOS sessions using a single image. I am starting one session of JUNOS router only. Do i need to compile QEMU for this to work. GNS3 0.7.2 already comes with patched QEMU so i am not sure what am i doing wrong and why is console not working for me.

Thanks

Hm..sorry it is my mistake I didn't notice that you run one router only.

I played with Olives running with GNS3 on WIN7 32bit yesterday and I didn't notice problems with telnet login to Olive . But I am not sure if I tried telnet to router after the login prompt appeared in Qemu (pop up) window or immediately after I started Olive.

Did you try telnet to router before the login prompt appears in Qemu window?

I use GNS3 0.7.2 all-in-one package (patched Qemu included) for Win7 so there is not need to patch and compile Qemu.

Cheers,

I tried before i get login prompt and i see only blank putty window. See the attached screen shot image. In the case when i try after login prompt, putty window comes up for few seconds and than disappears.
Any idea what maybe wrong.

Thanks

Hi
you said that you see the login prompt in the Qemu window. Can you login trough this window?

Qemu is running and it looks like a telnet problem.

Could you do this test, please?

1. try to do a command "ping localhost"
2. If ping is succesfull start your Olive and try "list" command in Dynagen console in GNS3

=> list
Name Type State Server Console
JUNOS1 O-series running localhost:10525 3000
JUNOS2 O-series running localhost:10525 3001

3. Is the command "telnet localhost 3000" successful?

If answer my questions is "not' then try disable your firewall, antivirus and check the connectivity again.

Cheers,

Hi,
1. when i do ping test on windows 7 i.e. ping localhost it seems to default to IPv6, i get reply form ::1
To make i can ping 127.0.0.1 i issued ping 127.0.0.1 and this works fine...
2. When in windows 7 i cannot find telnet program so i used putty and in the hostname i typed in 127.0.0.1 and port 3000 and selected telnet. when i press open i get a putty window and than after few seconds it disappears.
I also went under GNS3 QEMU general settings and changed IP/host binding to 127.0.0.1, it used to be localhost.
In GNS3 when i do list command it still shows localhost.

Any ideas what maybe wrong....Does not look like firewall issue......

thanks

Hi,
I don't have any problem with putty connection to "127.0.0.1 3000". I am running Win7 Ultimate 32 bit.
I guess something is wrong with your Win7 settings (not bug ins GNS3 or Qemu).
I am still thinking that there is an application which blocks your putty connection. The GNS3 installation on clean Win7 could prove it.

Cheers,
