Sorry no plan to add this in GNS3 but if you can tell me more about fortinet/fortigate, that's would be nice. What kind of OS is it? is this based on Unix? etc.

Cheers,

Hi,

According to http://www.fortinet.com/press_releases/050425_gpl.html

..."The source for the Linux Operating System Kernel and other GPL licensed components, including Fortinet's modifications, is available upon written request at the cost of CD copying and distribution. Additionally, Fortinet and its partners are providing written copies of the GPL license terms with all Fortinet product shipments. "...

FortiOS looks like to be powered by Linux.

More information can be found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortinet about their use of cryptography to hide this. I guess to encrypt their firmware files.

If you are able to run it on Vmware or Qemu or Virtualbox you can use it with GNS3 already.

One of the first steps could be to understand how FortiGate firmware images are packaged ?

If anyone has more information on this and/or how to find it, it would be nice ?

A typical Forigate 60 has the following hardware description:

Model name: Fortigate-60
ASIC version: CP5
ASIC SRAM: 64M
CPU: VIA Samuel 2
RAM: 123 MB
Compact Flash: 30 MB /dev/hda
USB Flash: not available
Network Card chipset: VIA VT6105M Rhine-III (rev.0x96)
Network Card chipset: VIA VT6102 Rhine-II (rev.0x51)

More information can be found about Fortinet ASICs on http://docs.fortinet.com/fgt/handbook/f ... 40-mr2.pdf including

• network processors: NP1, NP2, NP4
• content(crypto) processors: CP4, CP5, CP6
• accelerated interface modules: ASM-FB4, ADM-FB8, ADM-XB2, ADM-XD4, RTM-XD2
• security processor modules: ASM-CE4, ASM-XE2

CPU is already x86 compatible, for this entry level model, there is also a single ASIC (CP5) that provides basic crypto.

To find more information about images, diagnostic images are available from http://emea.fortinet.net/fortinet/aht/index.php
