 Post subject: Loading startup-config automatically
PostPosted: Tue Jun 22, 2010 9:47 pm
Having a small problem with the startup-config in a saved GNS3 lab not automatically loading next time I run a particular simulation. Everything seems to save fine, but anytime I shut GNS3 down and come back to a config later, the router loads the default, 1st run config, asking if I want to go through the automated setup. Even though this is > IOS 12.4, there's no "boot config" option in global config mode to hard set the startup configuration file. Any thoughts? Not a huge deal, just a pain!

Thanks.

Hi,
1. Which platform do you use?
- if you use c3745 platform, please consider the bug with configuration saving (you should use c3725 instead).

2. What is the way you use for saving configuration?
Try these steps (the easiest way how to save configuration is using Project):
- New project, check "Export router configuration files"
- Router#copy run start
- File -> Save

The second way is not using Project. In this case you have to extract startup-config to directory before closing GNS3. Similary after GNS3 loads your .net file you need to import startup-config from directory. It is a little bit laborious and this is why I recommend to use Project for you.

Cheers,

Thanks Brezular! The 3745 image was the problem, though for some reason now my configs don't save the RSA keys and any other configuration that needs a "general-keys" key set to work. Everything else is now there, but setting up VPNs is tough without at least one RSA key set. Have to redo lots of the config each time.

Hi,
I remember I had similar problem as you described. I am not 100% sure if this will work for you but this is my advice:

Try to create new project but don't check the option "Export configuration files". Only use the option "Save nvrams and other files".

Tell me if this is working for you, please.

Cheers,
