Hi,

There is no solution, the flash size is hard-coded in Dynamips I guess. I'll talk about this with Chris (Dynamips developer).

thats really a sad news grossmj. now a days if we want to practice for ccna voice all cme files has to be copied to flash.
atleast it is to be 128 MB.I checked 3640 and 3725.3640 has 8MB and 3725 has 16 MB flash that are very less memory.
we have to see immediately a solution in this regard.

Hi jaheshkhan,

i have seen you post about increasing the memory size of the flash for installing the CME.

Now i understand that you want to install the CME for ccna voice lab.

Here how i was able to do the same.
there few question you need to ask your self.
Q1. Which router iso are you using to emulate the voice lab?
Q2 Which CME version you are trying to install on the Router (GNS3 Vitrual)?
Q3. What is the size of cme file you are trying to upload.
Q4. What are the Phone models you are using for the labs?

The answers which i have had for my self is this.
Q1. Which router iso are you using to emulate the voice lab?
A1. I have been using the router 3725 router image.
Because of
a) It comes with two disks
b) Each disk is of 16 MB - it can be rasied to 99 MB max(but i THINK there is BUG when you are trying increase the flash). However you can increase it to 99 MB itself also.

to do so go to Router Configuration Dailog box > Memories and Disks > PCMCIA Disk0. Make that to 99 MB.

Q2 Which CME version you are trying to install on the Router (GNS3 Vitrual)?
A2. I am using CME 4.3.0.0 Version for my voice lab.

Q3. What is the size of cme file you are trying to upload.
A3. CME Full 4.3.0.0 Version is of 68 MB file. Too large for the flash.

Q4. What are the Phone models you are using for the labs?
A4. 7961(IP Blue) 7970-7971(Cisco IP Communicator).
Now since you i have answered all the questions. Here is how implemented the CME.
1. Down 7zip (zip tool for Tar). Install on the machine.
2. Open the CME-full-4.3.0.0.tar file.
3. remove all the Firmware of the phones expcet. 7941, 7961, 7970 and 7971. to decrease the files size to less than 16 MB.
4. run the following commands.
router# copy run flash: (will ask you to earase the flash. pls do that.)
router# format flash: (format the to dos verison)
router# archive tar /xtract tftp://<TFTP Server IP>/cme-full-4.3.0.0.tar flash: (to TFTP the CME
on the flash.)

Hope this Helps

if you have any more question post. or yahoo me [email protected]
Happy GNS3 Labbing.
Chikki.

chikkis,
thats great ..
i trying what you are telling me.
i already did as what you told half.
only the implementation side that you mentioned me is not what i didnt try. im going to try that.
but some question: ?
i have cme-full-4.3.0.0.tar. i think its created with windows. so ill try to format flash in dos format.
I think there is a bug in gns3 as u mentioned. we can only increase only flash memory using disk0 upto maximum of 99MB. but what i found in other forums dynamips can increaase to 256 MB.
I dont know why there is a disk0 restriction of 99MB in GNS3. so i felt its a bug.
even i could solve the flash memory size increment.
other problem im facing now is that i m unable to create directories and sub directories using archive command. means its not creating any directories or subdirectory.
So i feel that that cme files that i have may be in dos format. ill try the way said. if it is going to work. ill inform in this forum again.
pls have a look at the image that im uploading here

its working atlast!!!!
the problem was that I didnt format flash. i wasnt aware of that I want to format.when i format the flash.
its working fine.
Archive command is creating the directories and sub directories now after formating the flash:.

but still i wonder why we cannot increase flash above 99 MB.
I tried all the models in the gns3. but failed my attempt above 99 MB.

GREAT THANX TO CHIKKIS!!!!!!!!!!!
GREAT HELP!!
now i can move on myc ccna voice labs!!!!

Okay if you a .tar file is an windows file. that is worng. .tar files are only for unix and linux fromat.

The other thing you need underastand is the cisco routers are made on OS which based on linux.

Now as i a said the os of the routers are based on the Linux. it is nessary for you do a format on the flash before you can use them. when you format it will be formated in dos version.

and hence you will be able to create the directories /subdirectories.

If still you face any problem buzz me on my yahoo :- [email protected]
