Hi,
your Qemu setting is OK.
Did you run Console to see the boot?
Once again, you will not see boot in Qemu window. I see you don't use kqemu or kvm to sped up virtualization - it is not mistake but virtualization will be slower (and boot process too) so you must wait longer for login prompt in Qemu window.

Start the console and tell us the result, please.

Thanks,

We need to find some C programmers to keep developping the LISA Project ....
I contacted one of the creator of LISA yesterday and he told me that the project is pending because they need more people to work on it .....

we HAVE TO do something about it ....

Hi,
and don't you have a problem to download CentOS 5.4 installation DVD? It is about 2.4GB and LiSA qemu image is only 1GB ;-)

You don't have to create tap interface - after Qemu boots up, ethernet inteface is created in qemu. This interface is connected to your PC NIC with NAT. The IP address of this interface is 10.0.2.15/24. Check this with (ifconfig eth0) and if IP address is not presented there, run dhcp client on eth0 interface:

dhclient eth0

Btw. DHCP server is automatically started with Qemu, you cannot configure it. DHCP also assign default route for your Qemu subnet, it should be IP address 10.0.2.2, check this with route command.

Now try to ping your qemu default gw - 10.0.2.2. If a ping is successfully you can connect to Vista from Qemu (if firewall is disabled on Vista). Run ftp server on Vista and connect to ftp server from Qemu (remember it is NAT - you can connect from Qemu to Vista but not vice versa) with this command:

ftp 10.0.2.2

In Linux, SSH server is usually running on it so you can copy files with scp command (no need to run ftp server on Linux).
If you still have problem connect to FTP server, check FTP server settings and try to download file from FTP server with other PC on your home LAN.

In my case I had direct access to Internet from Qemu virtual machine. I could use wget and download patched CentOS kernel and LiSA directly from the Internet - no need to download files to host machine first (Vista in your case) and then copy files with scp or ftp client in Qemu, from host (Vista) to Qemu VM (guest).

Ups, I almost forget to mention this:
You need to setup DNS entry in /etc/resolv.conf in CentOS if you want to download files directly to Qemu form the Internet.

vi /etc/resolv.conf

nameserver your_DNS_IP

Cheers,

Thanks man, i was able to get it working by using scp server on windows, that was how i copied the files to the linux box. But if am not disturbing you too much, i tried accessing the internet from my qemu but couldnot. How does the routing work with the NAT IP address? How will the packet be routed from qemu, to windows then to my internet gateway. Will appreciate your reply. Thanks mate. You rock man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

1) Run Qemu and check if DNS entry exists in CentOS /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 10.0.2.3

You can also specify your DNS server - nameserver 8.8.8.8 can do a job for you.

Qemu:
IP: 10.0.2.15/24 (from dhclient)
GW: 10.0.2.2 (from dhclient)
DNS: 10.0.2.3 - (from dhclient) or assign manually

Win:
IP:assgin one from your subnet
GW: your gateway IP
DNS: not neccessary for Qemu host (it has its own)

I don't know how 10.0.2.3 DNS server works - it worked even I didn't set DNS server for Win OS. I guess it could be some public DNS server mapped 10.0.2.3

2) If you are behind the proxy server it is necessary to specify proxy server address in CentOS CLI.

http_proxy=http://IP:port

Check this link for more info about qemu:
