Post subject: Cisco IOS images that work with GNS3
PostPosted: Wed Nov 17, 2010 10:30 am
Note: This post is NOT asking for IOS images which would be in breach of the Cisco IOS License.

We have all loaded the GNS3 software, identified an Cisco IOS, started the router and opened a console.

Only to be met with the 'solid green cursor of death', it just sits there and nothing happens.

We try to unpack the IOS using a DOS window, and still nothing.

So we move onto the next IOS, and the next, and eventually Success!!

So which Cisco IOS works??

I have yet to get a 2600 router working, although I have tried five different IOSs.

I have had more success with a Cisco 3745 Router which now works very well.

I have successfully loaded: (the .image indicated I have uncompressed it)
c2600-ipbasek9-mz.124-25b.image
c2600-advsecurityk9-mz.124-25b.image
c2600-i-mz.123-6.image
c2600-is3x-mz.123-19.image

I always use a 2621XM as the router type, and usually give it 128MB RAM.

Thanks Rednectar.

I broke through the IOS images not working 'barrier' last night.

Previously using the Unpacker from the GNS website proved to be a bit unreliable.

I downloaded UltimateZIP Command Line version (a recommend from my web searching) and Success!!!

Only one 2600 image has not worked.

Try this video...

You will need some decompression software that works in the DOS prompt...

YEAH.... I had the same problem a few months back with the 2600 and 2600XM. It would work for about 10 -15 mins and then freeze....

I haven't seen the video you guys posted yet, but I hope it works. This was why I turned to Ubuntu to run GN3 to use the 2600's...

Thanks Gents!!!

I have downloaded this software in the past but was stuck not using it since I could not obtain some cisco images. I did go though cisco acadamy way back in 1998. But rarely got onto a route "in a corporate environment" to use the ios. Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the bin file so I can LEARN the ios before I take the test?

Thanks

Hi,

I using GNS3 0.7.4 and i want use the card NM-16ESW. I tried many IOSs on C2600, C3600 or C3700 but none work and in few cases the IOS load but when i display "show version" the card NM-16ESW is not there (I already choose the card on the configuration slots window before start the router).

Anyone knows what IOS this card work fine and in what family router ?

tks for now,
Andre
