Post subject: [SOLVED] open a project file originally created under window
PostPosted: Sun Oct 12, 2008 9:17 pm
Hi guys,

I'm stuck... Installed gns3 and all other required libraries under Ubuntu 8.10. Installation seemed to be done correctly as it runs other simulations. But, when I try to open the project file (SEACUG_CCNA_Lab_Project_9-2008.net) it displays an error. GNS3 starts looking for your original directories under windows and then switches to the directories I have defined for my configuration. Below is the error message as displayed in the console:

--------------------------------------

Dynagen management console for Dynamips (adapted for GNS3)

Copyright (c) 2008 GNS3 Project

=> Local workding directory C:\Documents and Settings\rinehartj\My Documents\Cisco\Seattle CUG\CCNA Course\CCNA Project\SEACUG CCNA Lab Project 9-2008_working cannot be found for hypervisor localhost:7200, use working directory /home/jer/SeaCugProjects instead

Local IOS image C:\TFTP-Root\C2600-J1.BIN cannot be found for hypervisor localhost:7200, use image /home/jer/SeaCugProjects/C2600-J1.BIN instead

*** Warning: Connecting R4 f0/1 to nio_gen_eth:\device\npf_{98d3ed10-3da6-4285-a6e2-cceb67bb3949} resulted in:

206-unable to create generic ethernet NIO

*** Error: errors during loading of the topology file, please correct them

--------------------------------------

GNS3 has been configured to get IOS from the directory where it now resides. I've made all kind of changes to see if I can get it to work, but nothing seems to succeed. Any clues that any of you could suggest?

Hi,

It's because network cards on Windows are not referenced in the same way on Linux.

You must edit the .net file and change any reference like nio_gen_eth:\device\npf_{98d3ed10-3da6-4285-a6e2-cceb67bb3949} by nio_gen_eth:ethx where ethx is your network card on Linux. To have the list of your network cards use ifconfig command in a terminal (it should probably be eth0).
