Post subject: Cant Connect hypervisor to port 7200
PostPosted: Fri Jan 09, 2009 11:06 pm
Hi,

I tried to install GNS3, set up the dynamips path and IOS images. When I clicked the "Test" button in preferences, it says "Failed to start Dynamips" and I got the error (cant connect hypervisor to port 7200) when I tried to use the router. I am using 7200 image.

I saw a post related to this and I tried to set the path to "C:/Program Files/GNS3/Dyanamips/dynamips_wxp.exe" (in fact i tried the other one too -- C:/Program Files/Dyanamips/dynamips_wxp.exe). Also, I did check that that .exe is there in the path. I tried to enable firewall setting in windows thinking that might be a problem but still it didnt work.

I tried "netstat" in cmd window and verified that the port is not occupied and also checked for any other instances of dyanamips running. One weird thing is I could install and use dynamips in my laptop and I face this issue in a remote machine.

Please let me know what I can do to get around this issue.

Thanks,
Pavithra.

Do you have typo in your post:
Quote:
C:/Program Files/GNS3/Dyanamips/dynamips_wxp.exe

There is "Dyanamips" instead of "Dynamips". Is this only in post or do you have "Dyanamips" directory in your system?

under the base port make sure it is 7200.

and dont copy and paste your directory, make sure the spelling is correct C:\Program Files\Dynamips\dynamips-wxp.exe

Hi,

I checked the base port and I am choosing the path by selecting not just copying.

I also enabled firewall settings for dynamips-wxp.exe. I went to windows firewall and added it using "add program". Are there any software pre-requisities that I am missing ?

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Pavithra.

Also I tried to disable windows firewall but still I get the same error. Looks like I am missing something else.

You can also try if path is correct by typing something like that to the CMD:

C:/Program Files/GNS3/Dynamips/dynamips_wxp.exe -H 7200

If dynamips starts path is correct. If not path is incorrect or there is some other problem.

Hi all,

Thanks for responding. I tried to execute the dynamips-wxp.exe and it threw an error because of latest version Cygwin1.dll already being present than the one that dynamips had installed. I tried removing the cygwin1.dll from the dynamips folder and copying the latest one to it but looks like the one I removed had some changes made for dynamips so I didn't work.

I can't remove the cygwin1.dll from the XP image that I am using, so I am thinking of going for an external hypervisor or go for Redhat installation of GNS3.

Thanks,
Pavithra
