Yes I suspect a bug in Dynamips for the c2600 plaform. Thanks for reporting.

I'll test it tomorrow and report it back here.

Regards, Jan

I can conform that with 3640 routers the problem has gone. Thanks!

Yes, I changed platform and IOS. (I tested C3660 and C7200.)
It seems to be working fine now.
Especially, C3660 has shown very stable so far. (I ran 8 of 3660 routers and PIX and IDS, CPU was usually under the 20 ~ 30%)
Thank you so much GNS3 Team.
And I hope new updated version, if it can support ASA it will be wonderful. ^^

Hi there ....
I used to had your same problem, maybe worse ??? but what I discovered with my humble observation is that each router in the workbench will try to eat your computer's memory little by little ....
What I recommend you to do is:
with 2600 routers use the default IOS recommended ram 64Mb and try to increase your Dynamips memory usage limit say if your computer have 2Gegs ram try to make your hypervisor limit to 1.5 G that's 1536 Mb ...
It works for me and I tested that for two hours with 4 routers 2611XM IOS...
also other tips ,,,
* by default GNS default to memory limit for Dynamips is 512Mb you need to increase that.
* when you writing configuration (copy run start) dont do any other thing let your computer finish building the configuration first, then after that do what ever you need.
* use command exec-timeout 0 0 on (line con 0) to disable the log out of the council if you are idle, this will keep your router on Idle and save some CPU clocking.
* make sure to start your routers one by one giving them time enough to reach the command prompt sign (Router>) then start the next one.
* it is better if you telnet the network from your actual computers shell rather than opening council for each router, it reduces the GNS memory usage, to learn how to do that, refer to GNS3 Tutorial PDF.

Hope this will be useful to you... and Good Luck

Hi

Happy New Year 2010.

I have ubuntu release 9.10 installed on a Quad= Core processor AMD 64bit.
I installed gn3 0.7 RC1 and Dynamips dynamips-0.2.8-RC2-amd64 installled. I am using a cisco 1760 with adv enterprise and a cisco 3640 with c3640-js-mz.124-25b. I cannot console. When I click on the 1760 router, nothing happens and when I tried the 3640 I got this message : error: lost communication with dynamips server localhost it may have crashed. check the dynamips server output.

I changed the router model and still can't console.

Thank you for helping

(Running GNS3.07 on Windows server 2003, AMD Opteron processor, 4GB RAM. Topology- 9 routers 3725 and 3745 running 12.4.24.T8 and T13 advip and adventerprise code to accomodate EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, DMVPN (mgre, IPSec-AES) and Static IPSec.)

I was having problems with 3.07 and dynamips losing connection to one or more of the 9 routers in my topology. I tried some of the suggestions posted here and still could not keep a stable environment. I finally changed from putty to tterm for console access and have not had any problems since. With GNS 3.06 I had used tterm on 9 or more routers without any problems so I took a chance and it payed off.

GNS3 is an awesome tool helping me find solutions to real world production issues before actually touching my network. My thanks to all who worked on GNS3 and Dynamips.
Regards.

Running GNS3 0.7.1 All in one install Windows with included Putty

I was searching for why my Dynamips was crashing every 5 or ten minutes when i found this thread.
I was running a 2651XM (c2600-ADVENTERPRISEK9_IVS-M, Version 12.4(15)T12)

I finally got a very stable session by going to:

Edit > Preferences > General > Terminal Settings

And checking the box "Launch this command using the system default shell"

Other than that I am using the default Putty settings.

It helped my out when I was studying VPN configuration CCNA-Security :)

Thank you for this. I was running 2600 images on vista ultimate 64 bit and it would just close after a period of time, no messages. Using 2691 images now and its running great!!!

I have been having this problem constantly. It's driving me crazy. I went as far as to re-install Windows XP. I have tried using different ports, telnet apps, and IOS images. I have also tried disabling ALL firewall(s) and antivirus like programs. I am contemplating doing a packet capture now to try to figure out what might be going wrong. I have been working with 2621 and 3640 IOS images.

I previously used Windows 7. I never had these issues with version 0.5. The problem seems to be limited to my AMD laptop. The crash occurs even with just one router - anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes - where the upper most limit may be around 40-50 minutes. I have had to constantly (every 2-3) save my labs in order to get around this problem.

I used both 2600 and 1700 series router but still it crashed. and all the configuration is lost. I dont know why in some IOS, I can;t console to all the routers e.g. if there are three routers, it consoles only two. c1700-y-mz.123-23.bin this is the IOS for 1700 and c2600-is-mz.123-22.bin for 2600.
Kindly help.

Regards,
Uzair
