Post subject: [Resolved] Help GNS3 or Dynamips crash
PostPosted: Fri Jan 30, 2009 3:35 am
I am running GNS3 0.6 the all-in-one installation. My machine is a 3.0GHz Pentium D with 3GB of RAM running Windows XP, and even in the simplest lab setup dynamips-wxp.exe crashes. Can anyone give me a clue what's going one? It would be greatly appreciated. The dynamips-wxp.exe stackdump is below.

Exception: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION at eip=0042B0F8

I also had a same problem.
While I am running C2621, GNS3 Console suddenly shows error message like this with no reason from time to time.

could not communicate with dynamips server localhost
It may have crashed. Check the dynamips server output

[Sample dynamips-wxp.exe.stackdump]

This was happened regardless of number of routers, IOS image, Memory ...even if I run only one C2621 with 128M which is enough that image.
I'm using GNS3-0.6-win32 on Win 2003 server, 4GB MEM, 2.4 GHz Intel Core(TM)2 CPU.
I really wonder whether this is GNS3 or dynamips problem ?
If anyone let me know how to avoid this crash, it will be a great addition.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Does this happens only with 1 IOS running?

No, I have tried many IOS version.
ex: Platform - C2621 through C2651XM, ver : c2600-jk9o3s-mz.122-46a , c2600-ik9o3s3-mz.123-26, c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.T8, c2600-io3-mz.123-26 and so on... mostly a latest version.
Sometimes I lost connection while router runs routing protocol, sometimes lost connection by itself for no reason. Really I have no idea.

Anyway thank you for GNS3 Team.

What you can try is to put a lower memory limit per hypervisor (see in Preferences->Dynamips->Hypervisor Manager).

Cheers,

Sorry to mention but that doesn't help. Just lowered it from 512 to 256. Still the consoles (dynamibs) crash within 10 minutes (Vista ultimate 32 bits). I only have 4 routers running eigrp (stable). They also crash if you do nothing on the consoles and just have lunch....

Regards, jan

Dear all,

I have the same issue before, lose the connection between the Dynamips in random time. After searched the post in the forum and in the Internet. I discovered the ios 2600 image had this problem even though the lower memory limit per hypervisoryou except the 2691 image (This is more stable as I tested almost 3 hrs, three 2691 routers integrated with ASA Firewall in the GNS3 and using the ASDM in IE). So it may be Dynamips problem with C2600 image. If you want using 2600 platform, please use 2691 ios image.

Hope it helps. !!!

^v^

Yes I suspect a bug in Dynamips for the c2600 plaform. Thanks for reporting.

I'll test it tomorrow and report it back here.
