Hi,

I have started facing frequent issues with the loopback interface on the lab machine.The issue happens only intermittently and I wont be able to ping from my loopback interface to any of my GNS3 routers or my VMWare Virtual machines.Only I can ping back to the loopback IP from itself and not to any other machines even on the same subnet.

I have tried many things - disabling my personal and windows firewalls,doublechecking about the Vlan membership on the gns3 cisco switch,proper speed and duplex on cisco switch ports,enabling/disabling the loopback adapter,restarting the laptop,restarting the GNS3 devices and the VMWare machines,.But no luck. Some times it work and sometimes it doesnt. This is eating up a lot of my lab time.

I am using Windows 7 64 bit,GNS3-0.7.4,VMware Workstation

Any advice or previous experiences

Upload your topology here, and what exact you wanna reach..
Lot of solutions to get it work here.
And 0.7.4 release isnt best for Win 7, 64 bit. I had troubles with it before.
I using Win7 64, And 0.8.1 VBOX edition, very stable for any processes

I cant upgrade GNS3 since I am practising my CCIE Security labs on that. Too much of effort required if I change it now. Any alternatives you have ?

Try bridging the loopback with the nic. That fixed it for me.

@ccnaccnpccie2013

Have you disable the firewall? One thing i noticed, if you made any changes to the loopback you must delete the cloud and re-add it. Also, when you do make sure that the equipment facing the cloud can ping the loopback.

Yes, firewall is disabled. I can't ping from router 2 as well. I don't know why, it was working fine in my old P4 PC.

Anybody who can help me, from my loopback interface (221.100.1.2/24) I can ping (from local PC) to the ip address of the router (f0/0-221.100.1.1/24) where my loopback interface is connected, router R3 can ping my loopback interface and all of the virtual box workstations and servers inside on my network topology can ping the loopback interface ip address. the problem is I can't ping anything back to inside of my network.

persistent route is already added in my local PC:
===========================================================================
Persistent Routes:
Network Address Netmask Gateway Address Metric
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 221.100.1.1 30
===========================================================================

Thanks.

I am facing the similar problem and observer that the problem is cause of Ethernet switch.

My loopback works if I connect the cloud directly with router however it doesn't if I connect the router through ethernet switch.

Did someone else observer the same thing.
