[--- Update to v4 here : topic5736.html ---]

I would like to propose this contribution : a Live CD with a pre-installed GNS3 environment and other things.

Here is a description :

Raizo, Live (DVD or USB) Debian used by the CFA (a training centre) UTEC in Seine et Marne in France ( http://www.utec-tic.org and http://www.cfautec.fr ) during the course of networking and Linux administration. It contains GNS3 VBE (v0.8.1). GNS3 is provided without any IOS but with 18 virtual machines (Only their names differ).

Raizo includes Wireshark, NmapSi4, DHCP server, FTP server, TFTP server and SSH server. No service is starting automatically and the interface and documentation are mostly in French.

The choice of the packages installed on the virtual machine is strongly inspired by NetKit.

The scripts (whoses names start by "fast-" ) have been added :
    On Raizo and the VMs
      fast-ip : address IP configuration.
      fast-dhcp : DHCP server configuration
fast-copy and fast-paste : enable copy and paste text between the different VMs and Raizo
fast-syslog : display with colors the 40 lasts lines of the file /var/log/syslog
    Only on the VMs
      fast-rename : rename the system
      fast-dns : DNS server configuration
(fast-rename, fast-dhcp and fast-dns used together enable to set up a dynamic DNS)
      fast-rip : RIPv2 router configuration
    Only on Raizo
fast-backup-gns3 : backup of a GNS3 project with the virtual machine
fast-restore-gns3 : retrieve of a GNS3 project which was backed up with fast-backup-gns3
fast-reset-vbox : reset the virtual machine from the beginning
fast-clean-crash-gns3 : kill all the processes used by gns3-vbe (in case of crash for example).
fast-mountUSB : mount the USB key in the directory /media/usb0
fast-startup : mount automatically USB key in /media/usb0 and process the script /media/usb0/raizo.startup
fast-memo : display some memos in french

When you start the VMs, they run automatically the file /home/user/.VMRaizo/VMRaizo.startup in Raizo

Like Netkit, the VM have also access to the user directory via /hosthome directory.

syntax highlighting for the config file has been created and added to nano.

minicom is configured to connect to serial port devices.
minicomUSB (or « minicom USB ») enable to use a USB adaptator.

I like it.

More developers joined GNS3; for 2 years, a lot of development will be made in order to really ease the integration of GNS3 in teaching environments: integrated laboratories (similar to netsim), automated configuration, a management server for dynamips instances and cisco images (no need to redistribute images, all will be auto-configured), better OS images, etc.
Once this is done, I think it would be good to improve this LiveCD or make others and distribute them as a standard GNS3 LiveCD. This is just an idea, but maybe we'll be able to work together toward this goal.

Don't forget to report crashes ;).

As you stated, this is a contribution, who is/are the author(s)? Are you? I see no license or copyright notice, I'll need a notice on the website or something to be sure it's OK to copy it. Also, how do you maintain it? Will there be future versions? Is there a repository or something? How about the CFA, do they own it or are they involved in its creation?

When I know why it has crashed ;-)

I am the author. You can copy it and use it. He is there to that. :-)
But, you can't sell it and you can't modify it.

Each year, I try to do a new version updated that I can use with my students. 6 months (of my free-time) are necessary to generate a stable version.

No, sorry.

Only my students who are just beta-tester, unfortunately for them ;-)

Is there an issue with that feature? Let us know if you find problems or have suggestions.

Thanks,
