I am using GNS 3 to set up different types of VPNs so that than i can calculate which VPN provide the best bandwidth. To do so i had the idea to use a software to generate traffic on the network and see which VPN offered the best speed.

Is there anyone who can give me a suggestion which software should i use to generate traffic and than calculate the bandwidth pls? any help would be much appreciated.

Using GNS3 for bandwidth testing might not be the best idea, bandwidth in GNS3 is very limited because IOS is emulated, which is very slow. You can usually expect a few KB/s only depending how fast is your computer. Anyway, for testing bandwidth you can use IPerf (or JPerf for a GUI version).

I'm not expecting to see the actual results, i am doing this just to see which vpn gives the best performance. in fact i will write in my documentation that all the results were obtain through a simulator software and will differ from results on actual hardware.

Thanks for your replay much appreciated

What tweaks can you suggest I can do to either GNS3 or Windows to improve thruput? I was able to hit 83KB/sec on a 100Mb/sec FastE :-(
