I see plenty of advice and walkthroughs for newer 8xx ASA images, but I want to use the 724-k8. I have the .bin file for IOS and ASDM, but am having trouble figuring out how to get the .initrd and kernel files. I also see plenty of advice for using a Linux OS, but am using Windows...any love?

Okay...I "gave up" on finding or unpacking the IOS 724-k8.bin, and what I opted for instead was using the unpack.exe. I then added the .unpacked file img to the PIX portion of Qemu. Probably nothing ground breaking to the masses here, but should be a functional work-around. Some may be asking, "Why is this guy stuck on this IOS?", well..the reason and purpose behind my use of GNS3 is not just playing, but emulation "As close to real world" the production environment that I work in.

As far as i know you cannot make this working. If you want the specific version try PIX is the same with ASA in this version and is working fine. Or you can try 8.04 or 8.4.2 in ASA they are working fine also.
