Hello,

GNS3 0.8.4 RC3 is now released. Because there are quite a lot of changes since RC2, I have once again decided to release one more release candidate version before a final 0.8.4.

Please post your suggestions/comments and let us know if you find any issue.

Windows all-in-one -> http://sourceforge.net/projects/gns-3/f ... e/download
Source archive (Linux/Unix) -> http://sourceforge.net/projects/gns-3/f ... 2/download
DMG package (Mac OS X) -> http://sourceforge.net/projects/gns-3/f ... g/download
Other archives and standalone versions -> https://sourceforge.net/projects/gns-3/ ... 0.8.4-RC3/

Here is the current change log for RC3 (only changes since RC2):

  • Removed '-vnc none' from ASA pre-configured settings.
  • Added Winpcap 4.1.3 in Windows all-in-one package.
  • Added latest version of Wireshark (1.8.6) in the Windows all-in-one package.
  • Introduced human readable byte sizes for stats in tooltips (what you see when hovering a device).
  • VPCS is now started with its working directory set to the current project working directory when using the Tool menu.
  • Fixed the 'unbase' feature (but the whole idea behind is flawed).
  • Reversed steps 1 & 2 of the Setup Wizard.
  • The EtherSwitch router is greyed out in the node dock if no c3700 IOS image is configured.
  • Set the 'Reserve first NIC for VirtualBox NAT to host OS' by default in VirtualBox preferences.
  • Added 'virtio-net-pci' to the list of available NICs for Qemu based devices.
  • Changed capture filenames to include the source and destination interfaces.
  • The 'layouts' directory is now created in GNS3 install directory (used by SuperPutty).
  • Fix: Allow '-' character to be used in VirtualBox hostnames.
  • Fix: GNS3 couldn't be started if the QtWebKit module was missing.
  • Fix: the Idle PC field was not cleared when a new image file was selected.
  • Fixed various Unicode and exception issues.
  • Added entries to have Dynamips/Qemu/VirtualBox hypervisors bind/listen to all available IP/host addresses (optional).
  • Various comestic changes for the auto Idlepc calculation feature.
  • File securecrt.vbs has been modified to include tranzitwww changes -> post18869.html#p18869
  • Added/changed multiple default terminal command lines, they need to be tested. See below for details.
  • Fixed bug with auto idlepc calculation.
  • Force baseconfig_sw.txt if present for Etherswitch routers.
  • Screenshot automatically taken (and saved in the project directory) after every topology save.
  • QinQ fixed in Dynamips 0.2.8 RC6.
  • Clean VirtualBox VMs from UDP tunnels when stopping them. .
  • Instructions entry for tools menu. [Edit by RedNectar: ONLY APPEARS if instructions.html or instructions.txt or instructions exits in the project directory. See topic6326-10.html]
  • Fixed bug with VirtualBox/Qemu devices while importing a topology: duplicated UDP tunnels.
  • Terminal in Tools menu to start in ~/GNS3/Projects directory.

Dynamips 0.2.8-RC6 has been included into the OSX DMG and Windows all-in-one packages, fixing the QinQ feature.

WARNING: Please note that you may have relink labs that use VirtualBox devices due some modifications regarding the "reserve first NIC for VirtualBox NAT to host OS" option. Finally, this version is not considered stable, this is a release candidate and changes may be introduced before version 0.8.4 final release, please use GNS3 0.8.3.1 if you do not want to report bugs/issues here.

Great! Starting to test.

In standalone x64 for win there is Dynamips 0.2.8 RC5, can you share Dynamips 0.2.8 RC6 separately?

Edited to keep size of topic under control. This is likely to get to be a long post, lets keep quoting to the essential part not the whole post

Hi.

Is there a Dynamips 0.2.8-RC6 for Linux?

Thanks for GNS3 (the best simulation tool ever!)

All stuff here has impact only in Windows version of GNS3!

[Change log]
* Fake informations:
-> "File securecrt.vbs has been modified to include tranzitwww changes -> post18869.html#p18869"!
-> "Added latest version of Wireshark (1.8.6) in the Windows all-in-one package."
No! You didn't. The files are still the old ones ;)

[all-in-one package for windows]
* Please update Wireshark to v1.8.6 (is v1.8.4 inside the package)
* In setup script change the description for Dynamips form 0.2.8RC4 to 0.2.8RC6
* Why SuperPutty is not checked by default? [seems stable now. right?]

[Preferences->Terminal Settings]
* Please update that command for "SuperPutty" to: (reference -> post16489.html#p16489)
Telnet: SuperPutty.exe -telnet "%h -P %p -wt \"%d\" -gns3 5 -skin 4"
Serial.: SuperPutty.exe -serial "%s -wt \"%d\" -gns3 5 -skin 4"

[Batch scripts + Menu]
* Update "vbox-console.cmd" at line 33 and replace inside PuTTY command line the argument "-sr" with "-gns3 5"
* Please add the script "config-extractor.cmd" in tools menu...
* Update tools menu for terminal to use: -> START cmd /K "TITLE CMD Terminal & PROMPT $G & CD"

* VPCS should be moved from its own folder to GNS3 folder along with all the other tools and also "cygwin1.dll"...
And as Chris(rednectar) says, the script that is opening VPCS (vpcs-start.cmd), should be modified to start using the temp folder found in gns3.ini as working directory. (But, only if there is no project stated)
Or should start using the project home directory to save its history and startup files there.
I've changed the code a little. ;)
Code:
@ECHO OFF&SETLOCAL

TITLE Virtual PC Simulator for Dynamips/GNS3

REM Temporary add GNS3 folder in system PATH, so "vpcs.exe" will load "cygwin1.dll" from that folder prior to any other location
SET PATH=%~dp0;%~dp0\vpcs;%PATH%

REM Change the working dir... (Here it has its config and history file)
IF NOT "%~1"=="" (                  REM This is done from command line argument by GNS3 when a project is open.
   SET WORK_DIR="%~1"
) ELSE (
   IF EXIST "%APPDATA%\gns3.ini" ( REM This is extracting the working directory from gns3.ini, to solve the issue with "normal user trying to write files in 'program files'".
      SETLOCAL ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION
      FOR /F "tokens=2 delims==" %%G IN ('TYPE "%APPDATA%\gns3.ini"^| FIND "hypervisor_working_directory"') DO (
         SET WORK_DIR=%%~G
         SET WORK_DIR="!WORK_DIR:\\=\!"
      )
      SETLOCAL DISABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION
   )
)
ECHO Setting working directory to: %WORK_DIR%
CD /D %WORK_DIR%

REM Launch a local copy of vpcs...
VPCS
PAUSE

I will write here all the "bad" stuff, as I find them. (So, to be continued....)

This is quite clear I think. There are things running on port 2103, 2105 and 2107, meaning you are very likely to have troubles connecting to your IOS router console ports. Choose another base console value, let say 3500 OR shutdown what's running on those ports!

PS: GNS3 only checks if the next 10 ports are free for each base port value.
