I have set up an eternal hypervisor at 192.168.0.88. It is a linux machine. running: dynamips-0.2.8-RC3-community-x86.bin -H 7200

When I attach an image to this hypervisor, I can add the router to my topology, but when I start the router I get an error message:
"209-unable to start VM instance 'ghost-c7200-adventerprisek9-mz.150-1.M.image-192.168.0.88.ghost'

However, this is only part of the error message. A full debug is shown below. The full error message is:
["101 Warning: no console port defined for VM 'ghost-c7200-adventerprisek9-mz.150-1.M.image-192.168.0.88.ghost'", "209-unable to start VM instance 'ghost-c7200-adventerprisek9-mz.150-1.M.image-192.168.0.88.ghost'"]

I have tested only on WIndow8 using both 0.8.4 RC2 and RC3 - and I have tried RC3 with dynamipsRC3.exe as well.
I have tested two different 3725 images, and two c7200 images.

Always exactly the same error message

Note: I had NO problem when both the host computer and remote computer were both Windows8 running GNS3 0.8.4RC3 (ie dynamips 0.2.8-RC6-x86)

Does anyone have a work-around?

CW

[Edit} Had hoped running dynamips RC6 - topic6426.html - might help, but alas just the same

Have you tried other IOS images?

I noticed the path to your IOS image is ~\user\GNS3\Images\c7200-adventerprisek9-mz.150-1.M.image: Can you try setting an absolute path, without the ~ ?

Ahh-ha. It makes a difference!!

That seems to have fixed the problem as I described above.

But if I run the RC6 version of dynamips, the router starts, but I can't get a console up - hangs at
"Press Enter to get the prompt" - so there is SOME communication (one way)

Yes, it happened to me a couple of times. Usually a reboot of the IOS is enough to have it work. Anyway now the original problem with the external hypervisor has been found which is Dynamips doesn't like ~
