Every time I reinstall GNS3 whether it be standalone or all-in-one I run into a problem when my router cannot ping the MS loopback adapter.

The setup is:

R1 -------- [cloud configured for loopback]

Both devices have IPs configured for same subnet. So routing is not the issue. Nor was I facing a permissions issue or a firewall issue. You can actually run GNS3 with the firewall on as long as the proper rules are in place.

My issue was that NO TRAFFIC was being passed between the router and the cloud. I'd do a packet capture on the loopback interface using wireshark and there was nothing!

FIX: Go to loopback properties and remove the check beside the line that reads "DNE Lightweght Filter" For some reason this setting, when checked, filters traffic coming in from GNS3.

I do not understand the feature and cannot explain why it works. All I know is it worked for me. If you'd like a better explanation google DNE Lightweight Filter and do some research.

I do not know much about the filter but I do know that it took me forever to find a post on this. I figured I'd share.

Thanks for sharing. I changed your heading to make it more likely to come up in a search result for anyone else having the same problem.

Where is this setting. Is in GNS3 or Windows? I'm using Vista 64bit and can't find it anywhere.

It's installed by certain software (e.g. Citrix) for VPNs. Google will reveal all ;-)
