 Post subject: [SOLVED] hardware question
PostPosted: Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:41 pm
hi community,

I was allowed by my manager to buy a PC for GNS3 as my laptop was close to explode.

I am just wondering if a core2quad will be supported or if you recommend a big core2duo?

many thanks,

Both are ok, the core2quad is great :)

hi

thx for quick reply.

I was reading I would need to run multiple instances of dynamips to use all 4 cpus of the quad, is that true?

I would prefer to run a single instance or so to say "just use GNS3"

:-)

thanks

I am using an AMD quadcore and only one instance of GNS3. All processors are used.

Yes, GNS3 automatically "load-balance" your instances (based on the memory consumption of the IOS) by launching multiple Dynamips processes.

To control this behavior, you can change the memory usage limit per hypervisor in edit->Preferences->Dynamips->Hypervisor Manager, but a higher value may crash Dynamips.
