Hi Guys,

I am currently working on CCNA security.I managed to setup CCP on my Laptop and make it working with the Cisco 3700 series router.

I downloaded the below image for C7200 series router of the internet and have configured it.

c7200-jk9s-mz.124-13b
c7200-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.T6

The problem is CCP doesnt discover the this router.. I dont get any error message, I just see a message saying Discovering. When I click on discover details I see it has found the hostname, software version and Hardware platform but doesnt go any further.

CCP discover 3700 router without any issue. I am running the CCP/GNS3 in administrator mode. The firewall is turned off.

Has anyone come thru this issue before or know of any solution

CCP version 2.7
java version 7 (build 1.7.0_45)

I am on Windows 8 enterprise 64 bit edition.I have turned of the firewall completely. As mentioned previous no issue discovering other routers it just c7200.

Please find the screen shot attached from CCP.

OK. Presumably you are connecing via a cloud to the MS Loopback adaptor?

Do you have Wireshark installed? If so then run a trace on the MS Loopback when you run CCP and check there is 2-way communication.

I've just tried it here and it takes just over a minute to discover a 7200.

- CCP Version 2.7 running in Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit
- Java 1.7.0_45
- WinPcap 4.1.3
- Router is connected to GNS3 switch then to NIO_GEN_ETH MS loopback adaptor (I've not tried a direct connection without a switch...).
- IOS version c7200-advipservicesk9_li-mz.124-15.T14.image

I have set up a local user on the router and configured http and telnet access:
Code:
username ccpuser priv 15 password 0 ccpuser
ip http server
ip http authentication local
line vty 0 4
login local
!
end

- I confirmed access to the router via ping, http and telnet. Take a look at the tech-support web page...

- I then ran CCP and added the router to the community list. Checked the discovery box and it takes just over a minute to discover the router.

HTH,

Hi Nick,

Hmmm... that might be the problem I guess. I have directly connected the router to the loopback adapter(cloud). As mentioned previously works fine on all other routers except 7200 series.

I have tried doing a packet capture and see loads of re-transmit and errors. Which switch on the GNs3 did you use? Do i need to make any configuration on these switches.

I was able to ping the IP address set on the MS loopback interface from the Router though the IP address disappears on the MS Loopback.

Finally got an error message while trying to discover 7200 router using CCP. The Network connection could not be established or the connection to pc is lost.

I have tried to ping the ip address of the MS loop back adapter from the 3750 router and the response time is 24ms but when I tried to do the same from C7200 router the respone time was 1200ms.

PS: I have directly connected it to the router.

I just used the standard ethernet switch in GNS3. No special configuration, everything set on vlan 1.

I noticed from your image that you are using a secure connection.
First, try your connection as non-secure, then you'll also be able to watch and trace the http sessions with wireshark. Right-click on one of the tcp sessions in wireshark and you'll be able to see what commands CCP sends to the router and what the responses are (there will be more than one http session). Once you are happy you have it working then you can enable a secure session & re-try.
