Hi, I saw that it is fairly easy to bridge your Internet access to the router in GNS3. I am now just wondering, what are the good use cases for it? Does having an Internet access helps in building any topology for studies/labs? (looking for some good examples). Or, why would I want to have an Internet access on a router in GNS3?

Hope my question is clear.

Hey, how do you bridge internet access to the GNS3 Router? Or how do you allow a GNS3 Router to access other elements of my lab that are not on my computer?

i48998,
One example I have used it for is when I am working with NBAR (network based application recondition) I can have a VM connected through my gns3 router and then have that VM attempt to access something on the internet (file sharing, IM, youtube etc.) allowing me to work on PBR/shaping/denying/allowing traffic based on deeper levels of inspection. this allows to really see if your policy is going to work as expected without causing other issues with lets other company applications.

R1(config)#class-map NBAR
R1(config-cmap)#match protocol ?
!
---a lot of options with NBAR---

Just my 2 cents worth :)

i48998,

I believe you can test NTP if it's connected to the internet?
You could configure ACL's denying certain IP addresses or sites, then you can connect a pc that you can test if it can reach those sites.

Let me know how it goes.
