Can anyone please tell me why these files are being written to my user directory as opposed to inside the GNS3 folder that I specified?

Thanks!

Zach

A) Which version of GNS3 are you running?

Check your directory settings. (GNS3->Preferences:Select:General>Dynamips) I suspect your dynamips working directory has been set to something strange (maybe nothing at all!)

The working directory specified here is the working directory that will be used is you do NOT specify [x]save nvrams and virtual hard disks when you start a new project
