Post subject: Anyone have SeaBIOS "bios.bin" that works for Juniper Olive?
PostPosted: Sun Feb 20, 2011 7:30 pm
Hi all,

Running GNS3/Qemu 0.12.5 on MacOS 10.5.8, so that's for starters :)

Got up to the point that I'm trying to install JunOS 10.1 on Qemu using the fantastic instructions provided by InternetworkPro at:
http://www.internetworkpro.org/wiki/Usi ... er_Routers

...and I'm running into the problem listed at the bottom of that page where the installer hits the "watchdog panic" after FreeBSD boots, due to a bug in the SeaBIOS version shipped with Qemu 0.12.0+. It says that the fix is to get and then modify the SeaBIOS source, setting CONFIG_SMBIOS to "0" and then recompiling. Before I go and try to do that, I thought I'd ask if anyone has an already-compiled "bios.bin" with this fix. So if you do, and would share, that would be awesome.

Thanks,
Will

Thanks, brezular! That did the trick.

Now I have another problem - the install says "The /tmp/preinstall filesystem is low on free space" and the install aborts, but I'll do some Googling and try to figure that out. But at least I can run the installer now.

Thanks again,
Will

Ah, booted the jinstall without enough memory... 10.1 takes 512M instead of 256M...

Did the process over again, and my Olive is up and running. Thanks all!

Hello,
I want to show my gratitude to brezular for posting a download link to the compiled binary that solves the problem:
Code:
ERROR - reset of uninitialized watchdog

I overwrote the old binary [after building the .img with the original bios] with the downloaded version and am now able to create JUNOS machines in GNS3 running on Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit with Intel i7 870 and Intel DP55KG. Thanks to brezular I can now move forward with my education!

I had tried to compile my own but it resulted in this error:

Hi,

According to my findings, sea BIOS included in Qemu 1.1 and above is working with JUNOS thus I recommend to upgrade Qemu to newer version.
