I have a simple network with one router and two hosts. I have configured a udp(legacy) multicast stream on vlc player but looks like that traffic is dropped inside the vbox wrapper. (vboxwrapper.exe)

Test Environment:

Windows 7 64bit
GNS3 8.3.1
VirtualBox 4.2.4
Server - Ubuntu 12.4 inside VirtualBox
Client - Ubuntu 12.4 inside VirtualBox

Config:
Code:
interface FastEthernet0/1
no switchport
ip address 100.100.100.1 255.255.255.0
ip pim sparse-dense-mode
end

interface FastEthernet0/2
no switchport
ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
ip pim sparse-dense-mode
end

Code:
R1#sh ip mroute
IP Multicast Routing Table
Flags: D - Dense, S - Sparse, B - Bidir Group, s - SSM Group, C - Connected,
       L - Local, P - Pruned, R - RP-bit set, F - Register flag,
       T - SPT-bit set, J - Join SPT, M - MSDP created entry,
X - Proxy Join Timer Running, A - Candidate for MSDP Advertisement,
U - URD, I - Received Source Specific Host Report,
       Z - Multicast Tunnel, z - MDT-data group sender,
       Y - Joined MDT-data group, y - Sending to MDT-data group
Outgoing interface flags: H - Hardware switched, A - Assert winner
Timers: Uptime/Expires
Interface state: Interface, Next-Hop or VCD, State/Mode

(*, 224.1.1.1), 00:24:22/00:02:14, RP 0.0.0.0, flags: DC
Incoming interface: Null, RPF nbr 0.0.0.0
  Outgoing interface list:
    FastEthernet0/1, Forward/Sparse-Dense, 00:16:54/00:00:00

(*, 224.0.1.40), 00:43:42/00:02:17, RP 0.0.0.0, flags: DCL
Incoming interface: Null, RPF nbr 0.0.0.0
  Outgoing interface list:
    FastEthernet0/2, Forward/Sparse-Dense, 00:43:42/00:00:00

R1#sh ip igmp
R1#sh ip igmp gro
R1#sh ip igmp groups
IGMP Connected Group Membership
Group Address    Interface                Uptime    Expires   Last Reporter   Group Accounted
224.1.1.1        FastEthernet0/1          00:17:02  00:02:05  100.100.100.2
224.0.1.40       FastEthernet0/2          00:43:51  00:02:08  10.1.1.1
R1#

The "debug ip mpacket" command on R1 produces NO output at all. However the wireshark capture confirms that traffic is sent out eth1 interface on Ubuntu 12.4 Server which means that that traffic is drooped inside the vbox wrapper.

Wireshark capture:

Could you please investigate this?

By setting the TTL value to 2 under VLC Miscellaneous Options the multicast traffic is forwarded out R1's f0/1 interface which is connected to Ubuntu 12.4 client. However packets are arriving but can't play the stream. Locally on the server plays fine without any issues.

I think the problem is with VirtualBox not well supporting Multicast. Maybe I am wrong but people have had issues with it.
