What's New since v0.2.8-RC7-community

* Fixed crashes in x86_64 builds by decreasing the optimization level to O2.
  It was also reported that using O2 makes packet delivery in general, and frame relay especially more reliable.
* Fixed many memory leaks.

Known Issues
============

There is lots of missing hardware functionality.

Reload from the router console doesn't work.

Using a self decompressing image can lead to an invalid IA and stop the cpu.

Yes, not a problem I shall get both both packaged. I am also still planning on creating a VPCS package, which will help provide a complete range of packages for users to install, bringing the Debian based line, much closer to the currrent Wndows installer.

One suggestion - the github repo for dynamips is named as dynamips-community which is what I have used to create the DEB package in the form dynamips-community-version, I have noticed the latest releases are now dynamips-version-community.

Personally I would use the former as it keeps the project name and version seperate, but i'm open to suggestions on this one (I believe the former may also be the proper approach for the packaging).

Obviously it would be better to decide on a naming convention, that we can then all stick to.

Well, all the previous versions used "dynamips-<version>-community", even if it didn't show up in the command line.
I just kept the same scheme and made it appear in the command line.

I considered changing it to "dynamips-community-<version>" but didn't make any decision, mainly because I don't know the details of what happened to the original dynamips.
I only know that the original author isn't working on it.
My main doubt is, what would happen if/when the original author comes back and continues development?

Also, I met the guy a couple of times and I am pretty sure 99% that the original author won't come back.

Finally, you will have time to work on the next Dynamips version because the next GNS3 release won't be out before September at the earliest.

I see, then I'm fine with dropping "community" and start using the original name, dynamips.
But we should only do that when it's time to make the next release.

Also, I don't have access to cisco routers anymore so unless someone contributes info on real routers to use as reference, like the output of "show tech-support", it's very unlikely that i'll touch any of the hardware stuff.
But at least I'll hunt for memory leaks and try to fix any crash that is reported. =)

Looks that IDLE PC not working with stable release. CPU usage is always 100%.
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and I installed Dynamips from source codes.

Any idea how to debugging why IDLE PC not working?

If you mean this error then it's not dynamips, but a GNS3 issue with detecting versions (doesn't know that the final version is newer than any version with RC).

Otherwise, tell me how to reproduce your problem with a step-by-step guide.
It should be explicit enough so that someone unfamiliar with GNS3/dynamips can reproduce the problem.

I agree, we should do it when we release the next major version.

Or the next bugfix version, or the next RC version, any GNS3 release is fine (as long as the dynamips code changed). =P
