Post subject:  How to install/configure quemu host and wraper

Hi there
I am new to the forum and to GNS3.
Got all my IOS router images working for routers working
I am trying to use GNS3 on Ubuntu 10 but cannot get Qemu to start. for setting up pc and pix
Error displays:
"Can't connect to Qemu on port 10525" and then
"Could not connect qemuwrapper at localhost:10525".
Has anyone successfully installed GNS3 and is using Qemy along with it. Any help that can be provided is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Hi.

I am seeing the same problem. When I try to start the PIX the GNS3 reports:
"Could not connect qemuwrapper at localhost:10525"

If I startup the qemuwrapper by hand:
root: # python ./qemuwrapper.py &

The output on the CLI is:
root: # ./qemuwrapper.py:943: SyntaxWarning: name 'IP' is assigned to before global declaration
global IP
Qemu Emulator Wrapper (version 0.7.3)
Copyright (c) 2007-2010 Thomas Pani & Jeremy Grossmann

Qemu TCP control server started (port 10525).
Listenning on all network interfaces

This looks fine, but somewhat irritating that I have to do it. Just a note: I have configured the QEMU in the GNS3, and have tested that it works, by pressing the 'Test' button.

Now if I drag a PIX FW into the workspace the output in the CLI is:

root: # Connection from ('127.0.0.1', 53401)
Shutdown in progress...
Shutdown completed.
Qemu path is now /usr/bin/qemu
Qemu-img path is now /usr/bin/qemu-img
!! FW1.console = 3000
!! FW1.netcard = e1000
!! FW1.nics = 2
!! FW1.image = /FW/pix635.bin
!! FW1.serial = 0x182B9D9A

Looks fine until now, but now I start it and this is the output from the CLI:
root: # command: ['/opt/GNS3/qemuwrapper/pemu_ public_bin2008-03-04/pemu', '-net', 'nic,vlan=0,macaddr=00:00:ab:9a:6c:00,model=e1000', '-net', 'nic,vlan=1,macaddr=00:00:ab:8c:c9:01,model=e1000', '-m', '256','FLASH', '-serial', 'telnet::3000,server,nowait']
Unable to start instance FW1 of <class '__main__.PIXInstance'>
[Errno 2] No such file or directory

And the GNS3 reports: " 209-unable to start instance 'FW1' "

I have tried with different versions of PIX OS, with the same outcome.

The versions I am using:
root: # uname -a
Linux hostname 2.6.35-22-server #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 22:02:33 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

root: # qemu --version
QEMU PC emulator version 0.12.5 (qemu-kvm-0.12.5), Copyright (c) 2003-2008 Fabrice Bellard

root: # gns3 --version
gns3 0.7.3

PIX OS: 6.35 and 8.03

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

i also have a problem running QEMU under dynamips, when i configued QEMU preference everything looks fine, and as i started "TEST" Qemuwrapper under configuration panel window, it gets me "Qemuwrapper failed to start".

Then i get into /usr/share/doc/gns3/qemuwrapper.py" and manually execute it under python see when happens,
it gets me following error message"
//
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "qemuwrapper.py", line 46, in <module>
import pemubin
ImportError: No module named pemubin
//

it says missing module "pemubin", what possibly went wrong here?

Thanks in advance.
