I've found a few Cisco icons library, but it seems that their format (vss or ppt) are incompatible with GNS3.

What format is it expecting and is there a smooth way to convert vss/ppt library formats to the compatible one?

OK, I've found the answer in GNS3 documentation, but the way to import simple jpg/png/bmp files is complex!

I agree and would like to change that in the new version.

It is even more complicated than expected:

The RCC documentation available here http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/resources.html shows that the syntax for the qrc file is a little bit different from what is explained in GNS3 documentation here http://ubuntuone.com/5h7ZU7HbTI9KYsAD9HDrNx

The slight difference lies in the " instead of ' after the <file alias= statement.

Here's my .qrc file:
    <!DOCTYPE RCC><RCC version="4.8.4">
    <qresource>
    <file alias="IOS-Firewall.svg">./IOS-Firewall.svg</file>
    <file alias="SLB-1.svg">./SLB-1.svg</file>
    <file alias="SLB-2.svg">./SLB-2.svg</file>
    <file alias="Switch-with-SLB.svg">./Switch-with-SLB.svg</file>
    </qresource>
    </RCC>

After compiling the .qrc file with the following command:

rcc -binary -compress 9 Cisco-Icons.qrc -o Cisco-Icons.rcc

and inserting the .rcc in the symbol manager library, the symbols are available here:

Unfortunately, there are 2 issues:
- we cannot use more than 1 decorative node (or am I missing something?)
- 70x70 px is much too big as compared to other symbols. What is the correct size? I have to start the whole process from scratch....

I'm afraid I don't know the exact details regarding the size of the symbols... but you may find your answer here: http://code.gns3.net/gns3-artwork/
