As of September 7, 2014 on Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon:
GNS3 management console. Running GNS3 Early Release (ER) version 1.0beta3.dev1 on linux (64-bit).
Copyright (c) 2006-2014 GNS3 Project.

>>QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.

I was getting the same error and IOU kept shutting down instantly so I couldn't use Switching in GNS3 which is the whole reason I supported the project for the early release version.
I figured it out after getting GNS3 to work in a Linux VM. The error only came up on my physical Linux machine but worked fine in a VM.

So here's how to verify if it's IOU that's the problem, which was what was causing that error for me.

Go to your GNS3 projects folder and open up the iou.log file
i.e. /root/GNS3/projects/%projectname%/%projectname%-files/iou/device-2/iou.log

If you see IOU is stopping because of the lack of license, it'll tell you in the log. A blank log means all is well with IOU.

So if you're getting that error, you'll need to get a license for your local machine. That's it. Install the license for IOU by updating your iourc file with the 16 character license number and you're all set.
Update the path to your iourc file again in GNS3, close out of GNS3, relaunch GNS3, open up your project and verify IOU continues to run without stopping.

Please don't ask me how to get an IOU license. For educational purposes I suggest you search for "iougen.py"
As with anything please purchase all software or get permission as required. =)

The default for IOU in a VM is setting it to "gns3-iouvm = 16 character license"

I edited my iourc file to have both my physical machine name and the "gns3-iouvm" in there so I can run GNS3 locally and also nested in VMs for any cloud setup.

Sample iourc:

[license]
gns3-iouvm = xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx;
[license]
%YourLaptop% = xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx;

Happy training! Now go get your CCIE, VCDX-NV, RHCE, and learn Arista switches, my fellow network IT people.
Cheers!
;)
