I received the same error message with VMware Workstation. I just downloaded Virtualbox and used it instead.

I think you are getting this error because you are trying to import the VM as OVA v2 format. I believe the one on the site is OVA v1. You can try to use a standalone conversion. This is my guess only, but, regardless, the requirements to run VM are clearly specified as VirtualBox. For an early alpha it is best to stick to the specifications. I might post an updated VM later, as I myself would like to run it under ESXi.

They should probably remove the either or option in the instructions to prevent any further misunderstandings then :) As the windows install instructions do say

IOU:

1 – Install VirtualBox (or VMware).

Yep, Jeremy just updated the requirements for VM to be able to run under VmWare. I'am already running the VM under ESXi, however I am not able to use gui frontend on Windows yet.

VM was created on ESXi (obviusly works there). I've tried to import it into VirtualBox and it seem to be working. Link:

I was just expecting it to work on VMware, apparently I was wrong :(

As for the GUI frontend on Windows, this was totally expected. We have had ton of issues with it just a few days before releasing and this is the very first alpha version too ;)

Alpha2 will probably be a lot better, hopefully we have it ready in 1 week or 2.

Thanks for your help!
