Same problem here. In the Dynamips preferences, it errors with a "failed to determine version of dynamips."

Hopefully, someone has a solution to this problem besides not upgrading to Windows 8.

I seem to have mine working. Stupid me, I forgot when I installed the all-in-one, WinPCAP failed to install due to compatibility issues. That's the reason I was getting this error. I then went out to the WinPCAP website and grabbed the latest version (v4.1.2). Before I installed it, I made sure that it ran in "Windows 7 Compatibility mode" as well as "Run as an administrator".

Installed fine and so far no problems.

Here is a link to the page I found this on:

here is a quick fix to install GNS3 on windows 8 i assume it will work on windows 7 as well, after downloading GNS3 locate the installation file, right click then go to "properties", then go to "compatibility" TAB, then on the bottom go to "Change settings for all users" make sure the box next to "run this program in compatibility mode for:" is checked and underneath select "windows XP (service pack 3)" on the same screen make sure you check the box all the way down next to "Run this program as an administrator", hit apply then ok. it will close out that window then hit apply and ok to close then main properties window, and then proceed with the normal installation, after it's done installing you can test settings under Dynamips and find out that it is actually works :)
have fun !!!

Hi,

I notice you use the c7200p-adventerprisek9-mz.124-1.bin image which won't boot because the NPE-G2 card must be configured in the router settings (NPE-400 is the default). However, NPE-G2 is considered unstable, don't use it. Solution: use an image starting with c7200 without the p, for instance c7200-adventerprisek9-mz.124-1.bin
