Hi, Ive read your comments and Ive installed GNS3 and learned how to add IOS, a router and configure it.

I wish now to be able to add a 'PC' so that I can Ping vice versa but see that it appears that I cannot do this..
Ive since 'uninstalled' the GNS3 program and 'installed' a 'Virtualbox' but after installation which I thought was specifically supposed to allow the 'ping from the pc to a router and vice versa' but this appears not to work. As when I click on the 'Preferences' tab and 'Virtualbox' and Test it states 'Fail'

I thought this GNS3 was more straightforward than this what a mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!:(((((((

Can you help me?

Hi of course there is more to it that just adding a pc since you suggest there is not. This means that you do not understand my question!

I do not just wish to add a virtual pc and that is it...! I wish to be able to allocate an ip address to the 'pc' so can do pings to router interface and vice versa etc

There are 2 versions of GNS3: 0.7.4 for qemu & 0.8.1 virtual simulator - These two versions require more than just add a 'pc' to configure so that ip addresses can be added!!

I think Im getting there now and this site has not helped at all so i think I will stick to a site Ive been using.!!! I have not resolved it yet but hopefully soon. I can configure routers no problem and I can configure a 'ms loopback adapter' on my laptop and drag and drop a cloud on my pc to act as a 'pc' but this is NOT what I want as I wish to have actual 'pc' icons not cloud. I dont think the 'cloud' can be changed either.

There are other more convenient ways of adding pc's so may try and learn: Virtualbox 4.1.6 74713 - once I have created a 'binary image' of Operating System to use then hopefully I can fully install an 'OS' and configure as usual like physical machine and integrate into 'GNS3'.

Then all will be good!!

Hi Im ok now If got a little more understanding about GNS3 as when installing just routers it is straight forward, but when wishing to add host pc so that 'ping' activity can take place then downloading other versions of software like:

- Virtualbox - which allows you to create your own VMware host pc and linking it to GNS3. This is just one out of a few that can I think integrate with GNS3.

There are 2 types of versions for GNS3 which are the following:

- GNS3-0.8.1-VirtualBox-Edition-Setup
- GNS3-0.8.2-BETA-all-in-one
- GNS3-0.7.4-win32-all-in-one

Windows - Explanations for the above:
- GNS3 v0.8.2 BETA all-in-one (includes Dynamips, Qemu/Pemu, Putty, WinPCAP and Wireshark)
- GNS3 v0.8.1 VBE all-in-one (unofficial version with VirtualBox support)
- GNS3 v0.7.4 all-in-one (includes Dynamips, Qemu/Pemu, Putty and WinPCAP 4.1.2)
